Veterans' Memorial Park

Veterans Memorial Park is the most prominent jewel in Genoa’s crown of entertainment resources. The village owns and operates this 30-acre park system under the direction of the Village Administrator and an Advisory Board consisting of five members appointed by the Mayor and approved by Council. Located on Washington Street within the Village proper, the park system employs a park director, life guards, maintenance employees and swimming instructors. Within the 30 acres falls 4 ball fields for baseball and t-ball, 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, an in-line skating court, and a separate swimming facility. In addition to the activities-related offerings, the Veterans Park System includes plenty of space for relaxation. Walking trails, picnic tables, swing sets and horseshoe pits help to make the park an excellent place for a family gathering. If your family is too big to fit around one picnic table, consider renting one of the 2 shelter houses that are housed in the park. The larger Shelter House is located in the main park area and offers an electricity hook up. The smaller Shelter House is located by the ball fields with no electricity available. Water, charcoal grills, rest rooms, trash containers and play areas are provided. Rental fees are used for park upkeep. July and August are the busiest months because of class and family reunions, so plan ahead.

Village of Genoa Quarry

The Genoa Quarry has been a mainstay in summer entertainment for residents and neighbors in surrounding communities for over 100 years. A spring-fed “water hole”, the quarry spans nearly a quarter mile around and is 100 feet deep in some parts. The Quarry is part of the 30-acre Veterans Memorial Park area.

The Quarry is staffed by a host of Red Cross certified lifeguards, three of which are on duty most of the time. Swimming lessons are taught in the mornings by Red Cross certified swimming instructors. Typically two sessions of lessons are provided throughout the summer season. In addition to the stone Quarry, there is a smaller, shallow pool for younger children to enjoy. Clear, cool clean water and plenty of beach area contribute to making the Genoa Quarry an excellent place to spend a hot, summer day. Genoa Quarry 605 Washington Street. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on park grounds. Fishing (Catch and Release) is permitted outside the swimming area, no license is required.
